In Greek mythology, Medusa was once a beautiful young woman and a devoted priestess of Athena, the goddess of war and wisdom. However, her life took a tragic turn when Poseidon, the powerful god of the sea, desired her, and in many retellings, he r@ped her within Athena's sacred temple. In response, Athena, enraged by the desecration of her temple, punished Medusa by transforming her into a Gorgon—a monstrous figure with snakes for hair and a deadly gaze that could turn onlookers to stone.

Medusa’s story has since become a symbol of female rage, resilience, and the complexities of victimhood and power. Modern interpretations see her as a figure who embodies the consequences of patriarchal punishment on women’s autonomy and the reclaiming of power, with her image representing both fear and the defiance of those who seek to oppress or control women.
